The challenge

Having secured a substantial grant to support advocacy on trans fat elimination, NCD Alliance needed a grant manager with nutrition expertise and project management experience who could ensure deliverables were met to a high standard. 

Our response

  • We conceptualised, organised and coordinated trainings, webinars and high-level events to amplify the message on trans fat elimination in policy circles; published a peer-reviewed journal article linking trans fat elimination to COVID-19 to demonstrate the importance and timeliness of the topic in scientific circles; oversaw and guided sub-grantees in Mexico and Pakistan to ensure high quality deliverables and alignment with international grant activities; designed the communications strategy and materials; managed all stakeholder relationships; and did all donor reporting.

  • The grant activities connected very disparate stakeholders on TFAs and raised the awareness on the importance of the topic amongst representatives of UN organisations and Ministries of Health. The trainings led to six different organisations taking up advocacy for trans fat elimination, and the sub-grantees became the go-to national civil society organisations on the topic, initiating high-level policy discussions and change.

  • Thanks to the consistently high standards of deliverables, the grant’s impact and excellent grant management, the donor agreed to a two-year extension of the grant.
